# Birthday wishes for a coworker: warm without getting too personal

Write a coworker birthday message that fits your working relationship, whether you share a desk, manage a team, or only meet on video calls.

## Match the message to the relationship

For someone you do not know well, a friendly wish is enough. You do not need to invent closeness or add a joke to prove you made an effort. A simple message can still sound thoughtful when you include their name.

For a colleague you work with regularly, mention something you value at work: their patience with questions, their clear explanations, or the way they make a busy week easier. Keep confidential projects, office gossip, and performance judgments out of a birthday card.

If you are writing on behalf of a team, use “we” only when the team has agreed to the message. A birthday note from one person should not imply everyone contributed.

## Messages you can adapt

- Happy birthday, Priya. Hope you get a proper break and a day you enjoy.

- Thanks for making even the complicated questions feel manageable. Wishing you a lovely birthday.

- Happy birthday! It is a pleasure working with you.

- Hope this next year brings good things at work and plenty of time for the things you enjoy outside it.

- From all of us on the team: happy birthday, and thank you for the care you bring to our work.

- Wishing you a birthday with fewer notifications and better snacks.

## Make the wording sound like you

If you are unsure about humor, choose the straightforward version. Avoid jokes about age, retirement, pay, promotions, alcohol, or someone’s personal life. For a remote colleague, a brief message they can read between meetings usually works better than a paragraph.

Use the form of address you normally use with this colleague. Before sending a team message, ask the contributors to check the wording and signature.

## Put it on a HoorayTime card

Open Birthday in HoorayTime and enter the colleague’s preferred name. Add the greeting and your own name or an agreed team signature. Choose an illustrated card style without a personal photo if that style supports it. For a portrait style, ask before using their photo.

New artwork generation needs Pro, an available spark, and internet access. Review the result and adjust the greeting, font, color, or placement as needed. Export the image and send it yourself through your usual work channel.

## Before you send it

Make sure a personal phone number, private nickname, or sensitive detail is not visible. HoorayTime creates a shareable image; it does not manage the team’s contributions or send the card on a schedule.
