# How to choose the best photo for an AI birthday portrait

The scene can change. The starting photo still matters. Give your birthday portrait a clear reference before you choose the balloons or flowers.

Choose a recent, sharp photo with one clearly visible face, even lighting, and minimal obstruction. Avoid group shots, tiny faces, heavy filters, and dark sunglasses. A good source image helps an AI portrait tool interpret the person, but no photo can guarantee a perfectly identical result.

## Look for detail, not a perfect pose

A relaxed phone portrait can be a useful starting point. Check that you can see the eyes, nose, mouth, and overall face shape without zooming into a blurry patch. A natural expression is usually more useful than an extreme angle or a face partly hidden behind a hand.
