Mention the distance once, then come closer
It is fine to say you wish you could be there. After that, move the attention back to the birthday person. A card that spends every sentence describing your sadness can make them feel responsible for comforting you.
Pick something you would do together if you were nearby. A familiar coffee order, a walk, or a favorite meal gives the message a concrete setting. If you suggest a call, offer a time that works for them rather than assuming they are free on their birthday.
For people in different time zones, check when the message will arrive. Sending it manually at a suitable hour is kinder than waking them with a midnight notification from your own timezone.
Messages you can adapt
Make the wording sound like you
Use a memory the recipient can picture without needing an explanation. If you make a plan for a call or visit, be specific enough to follow through. The distance does not need to appear on every line.
Put it on a HoorayTime card
Open Birthday in HoorayTime, choose an available style, and add your own greeting and a short signature. For a portrait style, use a photo the person is comfortable having used for generation. New artwork generation needs Pro, an available spark, and internet access.
Review the image on a phone screen and adjust the message, font, color, or placement as needed. Export it, choose your messaging app from the device’s share menu, and send it yourself. The recipient can view the received image without installing HoorayTime.
Before you send it
HoorayTime does not send the greeting automatically or choose the recipient’s local delivery time. Check the hour yourself and send the card when it suits them.
The video call in the examples uses your usual calling service; it is not a HoorayTime feature.
